NXP i.MX RT106x Embedded System-on-Module SOMRT1061

Need a high-performing and reliable ARM module for secure embedded automation and industrial IoT applications? For a very low price point, this ARM® Cortex® M7 embedded system-on-module (SOM) solves the problem of securely network-enabling devices with dual 10/100 Ethernet, including those requiring SSL/TLS, machine-to-machine (M2M) protocols, digital, analog and serial control, and much more. The product can also be used as an edge node microcontroller, edge processor or IoT gateway.

This unique self-contained surface-mount solderable package contains an NXP i.MX ARM® 1060-series processor combined with NetBurner’s acclaimed reliability and ease-of-use to get you a solution you can depend on.

Flexible RT106x ARM Microcontroller

The i.MX RT series of crossover MCUs are ideally suited to the workloads NetBurner customers prioritize: the right balance of I/O, connectivity, power, and industrial capability in an affordable package ready for manufacturing. NXP’s RT1060 family has also seen new popularity recently with the Teensy 4.1 module: hobbyists and professionals alike are eager to dig into a new efficient ARM M7 SOM. Similar to the RT1062, support for Dual Ethernet and plenty of I/O make for SOMs that serve a variety of roles.

Timers and PWMs

  • Two General Programmable Timers (GPT) –  Four-channel generic 32-bit resolution timer for each, supports standard capture and compare operation. 6 total capture inputs (5 usable at a time). 6 total compare outputs. 1 external clock input.
  • Four Periodical Interrupt Timers (PIT) – Generic 32-bit resolution timer with periodical interrupt generation.
  • Three Quad Timers (QTimer) with a total of 11 I/O signals – Four-channel generic 16-bit chainable timers for each. Quadrature decoder integrated.
  • Four FlexPWMs – Up to 8 individual PWM channels per each channel. 16-bit resolution PWM suitable for Motor
    Control applications.
  • Four Quadrature Encoder/Decoders
  • And more! See Specifications and the datasheet PDF under Documents and Downloads for details.

Three FlexIO modules

The SOMRT1061’s FlexIO modules can each be configured as I2C, SPI, UART, I2S, Camera I/F, 68K 8080 parallel bus, or PWM/ Waveform Generation. They are generic serial to parallel or parallel to serial interfaces that can even operate as a limited state machine.

And much more:

See the data sheet above for complete information on this powerful, affordable new module!

Design and Configure Pinouts with our Convenient New Tool:

The SOMRT1061 is so flexible, most pins can be used for many functions. In order to save you the trouble of digging through tons of documentation (and to give you easy drop-in schematic symbols!) we’ve made an easy Pin Configurator tool. You can look up the various functions for each pin, customize each pin’s function, and download C++ initialization code or a KiCad symbol for your device:

Embedded MQTT: Getting Started the Easy Way

I’m an intermediate level embedded developer and I’ve heard the term “MQTT” for a lot over the past year but never really delved into the details. I decided to spend a Saturday to understand what it is and implement it on an embedded device so I can use it for other projects, like sensors and various controllers that need to be monitored and controlled but are behind a router and firewall.
