Introduction
This document provides a hardware comparison for the purpose of converting a MOD52xx design to a MODM7AE70. Each sheet lists the MOD52xx function as described in the data sheet for that particular module, header pin number, and the MODM7AE70 function for the same header pin. It is important to note that the MOD52xx devices use a ColdFire processor, and the MODM7AE70 uses an ARM processor, so the naming conventions and descriptions may differ slightly even if the function is identical.
Each MODM7AE70 signal pin can have up to 5 functions. For the purposes of this comparison, only the similar function of the ColdFire MOD52xx module is listed. However, the MODM7AE70 has significantly more functions per pin that may be of interest. Please refer to the MODM7AE70 datasheet or contact NetBurner sales if you do not see a function you are looking for. This is particularly important for timers. The MODM7AE70 has 10 timers, but the architecture is described differently than ColdFire.

Upgrade Notes for ARM Signal Names
The MODM7AE70 has a total of 7 serial peripherals
- 2 USARTS
- 5 UARTS
The two USART peripherals can be configured as UARTs or SPI. Since there are other dedicated SPI ports available and the most common usage for the USART will be a UART configuration, the data sheet refers to the serial peripherals as Serial Ports 0 – 6. Serial ports 0 and 1 are USARTs and serial ports 2 – 6 are UARTs. However, you can configure the USARTs in any mode you wish.

These two peripherals are normally configured as serial UARTs 0 and 1, serial port 0 is the default debug/console port. But you can also configure them for SPI operation.
