The MOD5441X family of Single and Dual Ethernet Core Modules provide an incredible amount of capability, versatility, and reliability in a small form-factor and price. The MOD5441X allows you to add Ethernet connectivity to an existing device and even use it as your device’s embedded core processor.

The module contains everything needed for design engineers to add networking, logic, control and monitoring to a new product or to existing assets. The beauty of this product is that you’re not spending much money to solve the problem of network-enabling devices with 10/100 Ethernet, including those requiring digital, analog and serial interface and control.

The features don’t stop there. We understand that easily adding network IoT capability is just part of the equation. The MOD5441X enables designers and hobbyists to quickly and conveniently integrate embedded real-time processing with a wide array of I/O interfaces, signal converters and other peripherals to allow you to monitor, analyze and control your fielded sensors, meters, devices, indicators, process and systems to offer a nearly end-to-end networked solution.

The integrated 250MHz 32-bit processor with a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) and flash memory provides additional embedded capability to acquire and analyze data and provide logic and autonomy to get more from your systems. The Dual Ethernet MOD54417 configuration offers even more flexibility as this model functions as a switch or as two independent ports, each with its own MAC address.

The MOD5441X has evolved from the legacy MOD52XX series offering the same quality and reliability but with even greater capabilities. As always, the robust operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C makes these core modules suitable for punishing service in many military, outdoor and industrial applications. Years of deployments in these arenas, along with our outstanding email support, technical documentation, code libraries, and well-attended user forums, have made NetBurner’s Ethernet Core Modules a simple and trusted choice.

We understand that NetBurner customers aren’t all aerospace engineers or astrophysicists (stay tuned for those case studies in upcoming newsletters) and just don’t have the time to reinvent the wheel. So for just a little bit more dough, our NNDK-MOD544XXLC-KIT development kits flatten your learning curve and lighten the load with a compact interface board packed with heavenly peripherals like USB power and data jacks, RS-232 jacks, 50-pin bus, DIP switches and other handy components that are ready to “rock down to Electric Avenue”. We even provide schematics for these development boards so that you can use them in your own designs. It really can’t get much better than that!

Peripherals that are a part of all MOD5441X models:

  • Ethernet – Standard 10/100Mbit Ethernet interface. Up to 2 Ethernet ports that can support “switch mode” and “independent port mode” with discrete MAC addresses.
  • I2C – Multi-master serial bus for lower speed peripherals, typically 100 kHz with up to 6 I2C interfaces. Allows for multiple slave chips to talk to multiple master chips; intended for communication over short distances; data rates fall between serial and SPI at 100 kHz to 400 kHz.
  • CAN – All peripherals may hear all communications; Used in systems where multiple components need to communicate with each other; All components share the same line; Priority-based messages; No clock needed, Robust multi-master message based serial communication interface. Speeds up to 1MHz. Up to 2 CAN interfaces.
  • SPI – Allows for the connection of multiple slave peripherals to one (and only one) master; It is good for high data rate full-duplex connections (10MHz); Uses a clock signal to ensure that data is sampled correctly, and keeps the devices in synch with one another; the slave hardware can be extremely simple (such as a shift register); synchronous full duplex serial communication interface. Speeds up to 25MHz. Up to 4 SPI interfaces.
  • ADC – Converts analog voltage on a pin to a digital signal; Dual 12-bit analog to digital converters with up to 8 switched inputs.
  • DAC – Converts a digital signal on a pin to an analog signal; Dual 12-bit digital to analog converters with up to 2 inputs.
  • PWM – Pulse width modulator for applications such as motor control. Up to 5 PWM channels. Used to control analog circuits with digital output; Allows us to change the proportion of how long the signal is high vs low; Frequently used in controlling servo motors and the brightness of LEDs.
  • GPIO – Up to 42 General Purpose Input/Output pins, 16 of which are Rapid GPIO capable.
  • Rapid GPIO – General purpose Input/Output pins that can be designated for use by the user; 16 bit high-speed GPIO functionality; mapped directly to the processor’s bus.
  • UART – Standard asynchronous serial port with up to 9 UART interfaces.
  • 1-Wire – Single wire serial interface that provides low speed data, signaling and power.
  • USB – USB 2.0 on-the-go interface supporting device mode for serial communications (CDC), or host mode for USB flash drives.
  • SDHC – Secure digital host controller for fast access with flash cards.
  • SSI – Synchronous serial interface. Up to 2 SSI interfaces.
  • RTC – Real time clock with 2kB standby RAM.
  • Flexbus – External address and data bus to connect high speed memory or peripherals.
  • Removable Flash – Offline here and there? Need more space? No problem. The MOD5441X is SD/MMC and MicroSD ready. FAT32 support for SD Cards up to 32GB (requires exclusive use of one SPI port).

Extras that come integrated with the MOD5441X Development Kits (NNDK-MOD544XXLC-KIT):
