Overview

The SBL2e is a compact low cost multifunction network module that network-enables your product with 10/100 Ethernet, two UARTs, analog to digital inputs, general purpose I/O and I2C.

The SBL2e uses a SBL2e chip, which may also be purchased and soldered directly on to your circuit board. This chip provides a third UART, a total of 8 analog to digital channels, SPI, and Interrupt inputs.

The SBL2e Network Development kit enables you to create your own custom appliations for the SBL2e and the SBL2e Chip. The development kit includes all the hardware, software and tools you need to start writing application code for your product or idea immediately. Note that this development kit uses the NetBurner Single Chip TCP/IP Stack, rather than the NetBurner Standard TCP/IP Stack.

For a complete listing of software and protocols included with the kit, please see the NetBurner Single Chip Network Platform Software and Protocols datasheet.
Carrier Board Details
The hardware features on the SBL2e carrier board help you evaluate your peripheral connectivity (UART, A/D inputs, digital I/O, 10/100 Ethernet) and to configure the SBL2e. DB9 connectors use the onboard RS-232 level shifter enable devices to quickly connect via the serial ports. Extension headers make it easy to connect to a daughterboard or wrapping board for your specific application. The USB port can be used to monitor serial port 0 data and/or to power the board.
Is the SBL2e the most cost effective device for your application?
The NetBurner Single Chip platform is an extremely cost effective platform for simple applications, but this comes at a cost in features and development time. Unlike the standard NNDK applications where one can expect to add significant features to the examples, the SBL2E examples are close to the limit of what can be done with the platform. You can modify the applications, but if you add features also expect to remove features. See table below to determine whether or not the SBL2e will be the most cost effective device for your application.

Simple and complex applications /
all volumes

Unit cost

Lower unit cost with single chip solution, but very limited RAM.

Higher unit cost, but significantly more RAM and other resources.

Application type

Simple applications
which take into account the additional costs due to longer development times required to optimize code for smaller memory footprint.

Good choice for any size application. Very fast development time.
Target volumes

Simple applications should have a volume of at least 1K+ units.
Multi-function applications should have a volume of at least 10K+ units.
